About the Edition

Coming to periscope depth is one of the most intensive of the routine submarine operations. Errors in Fire Control and Sonar System information serve to produce uncertain contact solutions that complicate the decision of selecting a safe course. The model developed in this thesis simulates a specified number of trials on each possible course, with the measure of effectiveness for each course being the probability of the course being acceptable with respect to specified minimum range criteria. The model outputs a geographic display and a graph of the measures of effectiveness versus course.

J Danko. If you are asking what a sub's Periscope Depth is, it depends on the Submarine and its load out of periscopes. Periscope Depth is defined as the depth needed to extend the scope above the surface of the water. For a traditional optical periscope t.

Once a return to periscope depth is complete, periscope might only be used to provide visual confirmation that the submarine is safe and briefly confirm the tactical picture (e.g. confirm range of priority contacts), periscope may only be raised for a short time as a primary objective of submarines is to remain covert (Bateman ; Stanton ).Cited by: Within the same programme, on 30th SeptemberLockheed Martin’s Australian subsidiary was also selected as the future submarine combat systems integrator, while the combat system specification should be completed by the second half ofAMR sources have stated.

In Submarine periscope depth course selection tactical decision aid book online version of the manual we have attempted to keep the flavor of the original layout while taking advantage of the Web's universal accessibility.

Since the field must be 40 degrees /or degrees = 2 degrees 24', this limits the length between the objectives of the two telescopes, since the entire beam of light must fall on the lower objective.

A view through the periscope of a submarine at the Maritime Museum in San Diego. The CWA process has been criticised for being complex and time consuming. In order to address these concerns, and in an attempt to provide some level of guidance and expedite the documentation process, a software tool has been developed (Jenkins et al., ).The software tool allows data to be passed between these phases, expediting the documentation process, and facilitating updates and by:   I’m assuming that you’re asking if a periscope functions while the periscope itself is fully submerged, and the answer is a qualified yes.

"Submarine at periscope depth in Bantry Bay.". The only reason a submarine comes to periscope depth is to communicate or do visual observations. A submarine on patrol will usually come to periscope depth at least once a day or more.

It really depends on the tactical situation. Most excursions to periscope depth are measured in minutes. _____ Edit: Check out this video. Requirements for submarine periscope depth operations have been increased by integration with carrier battle groups, littoral operations, and contributions to joint surveillance.

Improved periscope depth performance is therefore imperative. Submarine control personnel rely on a large number of analog gauges and : a real gap in tactical picture clarity and reliability for: manoeuvre decision in a dense tactical environment, safe return to periscope depth, weapon engagement in antisurface and antisubmarine warfare.

To ensure shallow water safety of navigation, SUBTICS® introduces innovations through:. PERISCOPE: A. GENERAL DESCRIPTION: 4A1.

This periscope would be the #1 periscope and was referred to as the attack scope. This was because it had a lower profile and left a smaller wake in the water. The submarine would come to periscope depth several times a day to get radio messages and navigational position fixes from naval satellites. This is one of the most common questions asked by unimaginative types who just don't "get it." Actually at periscope depth we can see the model submarine very well and also when the sub is running shallow close to shore.

In murky water, sub dudes spend a lot of time at periscope depth and on the surface, with short, shallow dives.Such a submarine group could obtain its supplies from vessels of the fleet which it accompanies, and be in every respect as mobile as any unit of the fleet.

The tactics of such a submarine group after contact with the enemy will be the same as the tactics already described for harbor defense and coast defense submarines in contact with the enemy.
